摇摆车 / Ride of Our Lives exhibition
A showcase of Singapore kiddy rides, an expression of simple joy with a simple 20 cent coin at hand. The 20 cent coin was like the key that unleashed our imagination – be it flying on an elephant or steering a boat.
Often in oblivion and being overlooked, are the very hands and heart that goes behind these kiddy rides. In 2006, we first visited Woo Hock Trading (one of Singapore’s kiddy rides maker), and that was where we met Mr. Lee. Mr Lee designs, paints, oils these kiddy rides, making sure maintenance is made and that the kiddy rides are well taken care of.
Unfortunately in 2007, a fire accident that happened in Hougang led to an implementation of a new regulation to have corridors free from any clutter. This incident had badly impacted the usual placements of kiddy rides and resulted in the decline of them.
We hope that through this exhibition, would be our little effort in preserving these kiddy ride memories
Ride a horse • fly on an elephant • steer a boat
An exhibition to recollect the simple joys of a 20¢ kiddy ride.
